Political Commentator Jimmy Dore pushes #ForceTheVote for Medicare For All

As we reach the nine month mark since COVID-19 hit the United States, political commentator Jimmy Dore has pushed the #ForceTheVote movement in hopes of bringing Medicare For All to the American people in the middle of a pandemic.

The United States began taking action against COVID-19 around March of 2020. In that time the United States Congress passed the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act (HR6074), the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (H.R.6201), and the CARES Act (HR748).

Direct funding to the American people throughout the duration of the pandemic has been limited to a one-time check of $1200, which was based on the federal minimum wage for a full time worker’s monthly salary. No other bill was passed for direct funding to the American people until late December when the US Congress passed a bill to send a one time check of $600 to Americans.

At this time, the 2020 elections have resulted in the Democrats losing nine seats in the house, another party losing one seat in the house, and the Republicans winning ten seats in the house. The Democrats won one seat in the senate, the Republicans lost one seat in the senate, and there are two elections in Georgia that have not been called. In total, the Democrats control the House of Representatives and the Republicans control the Senate.

Around mid-December of 2020, Jimmy Dore began trending on Twitter for pushing #ForceTheVote. The idea is for Progressive members of the Democratic party to withhold their vote from Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House in return for a floor vote for Medicare For All. The hope is to bring Medicare to all Americans in the middle of a pandemic or get all representatives on record voting against it, so any “progressives” who might vote it down can be primaried and replaced by actual progressives. A website called ForceTheVote.org has been created to push the movement.

Nancy Pelosi has been Speaker of the House throughout the pandemic. Even with Donald Trump losing the presidency and countless moral attacks against the Republican party, the Democrats still lost more seats in the US Congress throughout 2020’s elections.

Further backstory has brought Progressive lion Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) into the battle. After a great deal of work, and securing a spotlight from the Jimmy Dore Show, AOC was elected into the House of Representatives in 2018’s elections. She ran on pushing Medicare For All and fighting party leadership. After winning her election, she has refused to return to the Jimmy Dore Show or communicate directly to Jimmy in public. Mr. Dore has claimed on air that AOC was given the command from those within the party to stay away from Jimmy Dore and The Jimmy Dore Show if she wants to succeed in politics.

AOC began responding to the #ForceTheVote movement and NFL Player Justice Jackson through a series of tweets, saying co-sponsors put legislators on record, and making other excuses as why progressive should not withhold their vote from Nancy Pelosi in order to force a floor vote for Medicare for All during a pandemic.

Some have argued that a Republican might become Speaker of the House of Nancy Pelosi does not win, but there would be a process with elections to determine who the Speaker would be. At this time, Nancy Pelosi has an average Real Clear Politics Score of -18.6, worse than President Trump’s average RPC score of -10.4.
