Thousands of President Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol building in Washington D.C. on Wednesday morning January 6, 2021. They were all apart of the “Stop the Steal” rally President Trump had planned for 11:00am at the Capitol Building to protest the US Congress certifying the electoral college votes for President-Elect Joe Biden.
President Trump has been claiming the Presidential election was fraudulent. He had even claimed the count was off when he was election four years ago because he had lost the popular vote. Recently, a leaked phone call reveled a conversation between President Trump and the Georgia Secretary of State where he asked the SOS to recount and find a specific amount of votes.
Protesters began to break into the Capitol Building by climbing walls, busting through windows, bashing in doors, tearing thin fences, and some videos on Twitter revealed some capitol police allowing protesters through barricades. However, many more videos have shown protesters clashing with police forces.

Many representatives had to take cover, even putting on gas masks to protect themselves from tear gas. All representatives escaped from the US Capitol unharmed as domestic terrorists began breaching deeper into the building.

At the time of writing this article, four domestic terrorists have been killed by US authorities, and over 50 have been arrested for staying out past curfew. The National Guard was eventually called to help clear out the rally.

After the building was cleared, the electoral college certification continued, and Mayor Bowser enacted a 12 hour curfew for D.C. starting at 6:00pm (NBC News. “4 dead, Congress evacuated, National Guard activated after pro-Trump rioters storm Capitol.” January 6, 2021).
It appears President Trump attempted to calm the crowd through social media, but his words fell on deaf ears after rallying the troops. Social media began censoring President Trump, removing videos off YouTube and Facebook, and preventing retweets and quotes on Twitter (CNN Business. “Facebook, Twitter and YouTube take action on Trump’s posts amid riots at the US Capitol.” January 6, 2021).
With two weeks left in President Trump’s administration, America and the rest of the world is wondering what action the United States Congress take? And why weren’t the Capitol Police prepared for this rally that the President of the United States had planned?
